IV Community Freebox Clean Up, 01/18/14

IMG_0150

Friday January 18th 2014, some of us gathered at  the I.V. Community Free Box – a clothing exchange hub in Isla Vista.  Lifting, inspecting and sorting clothing into trash or treasure was a mindful activity, leaving us wondering:  Which party was this top left behind at? Are there children small enough to wear this sock? Where were these jeans first made and what was their journey to this bin?  It was a very human connection.  We needed to concentrate, notice, see patterns, match. As our overseer Michael commented, “It is a great job for those who want to exercise their OCD!”  Quite a few folk dropped by to chat or look for clothing as we worked through the piles of items.

The Community Free Box is now a less daunting source of perfectly fine clothes for protection, warmth, and modesty or fun!

The IV Community Free Box may need some regular or occasional maintenance, so this could become a once-a-month activity.
